Maha Sivarathiri at Sri Sivan Temple

Significance

Maha Sivarathiri is an important festival in celebration of Lord Siva. The monthly Sivarathiri falls on Chathurthasi Thithi which is the day before the new moon (Amavasai). The Sivarathiri that comes in the month of Masi  (February – March) is known as Maha Sivarathiri. This year, Maha Sivarathiri is on Thursday, 11 March 2021.

In view of Covid-19 restrictions, the following changes will apply for Maha Sivarathiri at Sri Sivan Temple on 11 March 2021:

1.Temple opening hours on Thursday, 11 March 2021 (6:00pm) to Friday, 12 March 2021 (8:00am)

2.Only 250 devotees will be allowed in the Temple at any one time.

3.Devotees offering Paalkudam must pre-book their timeslots online at http://sst.org.sg/Services/MassEvent

4.ONLY pre-prepared Paalkudams by the Temple will be allowed as offerings.

5.Any devotee offering Paalkudam and walk-in devotee can only be accompanied by one other person.

6.Walk through the assigned pathway without stopping and leave the Temple premises immediately upon completion of the Paalkudam offering and prayers.

7.No food or drinks can be consumed within the Temple.

8.Elderly, young children and those who are physically challenged are encouraged to pray from home as Maha Sivarathiri prayers will be live streamed at heb.org.sg.

9.Masks must be worn at all time during prayers.
